Our characterful spaces provide the perfect setting for your marriage celebrations. But rather than wax lyrical about it ourselves, we asked Merchants Manor bride Sarah Johns to tell us about her big day.
Both from Cornwall, Rich and Sarah had been together for six years when Rich whisked Sarah away for a romantic Valentine’s weekend and popped the question. The date was set, so the next big question was, where?
The perfect setting
“We were looking for somewhere that felt welcoming, with excellent food and drink, and that would be convenient for our guests,” says Sarah. “We looked at a couple of other places but none of them quite hit home with what we wanted. They were all very ‘hotely’. Merchants Manor was different. It was very homely and welcoming.
“What Nick and Sioned have done with the place is amazing. They’ve really gone to town taking it back to the original, so it’s a proper Manor House again. The attention to detail is gorgeous.
"When we saw the light, airy ballroom we knew it would be a great setting for the main wedding breakfast and reception. While the bar and lounge area were perfect for providing a breakout space in the evening for people who wanted peace and quiet away from the band.
Spoilt for choice
“We went through the menus with Nick and Sioned. There was so much to choose from, and they were really helpful in putting the menu together and selecting the right wines.
“The team at Merchants Manor were amazing. They helped us with all the organisation running up to the day.
“Merchants Manor was different. It was very homely and welcoming.” – Sarah Johns, found the perfect venue for her wedding reception at Merchants Manor.
The big day
“We got married in the church where my mum and dad were married. Then all 65 guests went on to Merchants Manor, where Sioned and Nick welcomed us with glasses of Pimms. It was amazing to walk in and have all our family and friends celebrating together under one roof.
“I went to have a little look in the Ballroom before anyone else went in and it was exactly how I’d imagined it. They’d taken my ideas and run with them, co-ordinating it all to look amazing.
“After the food – which was fantastic – we had a live band, who Rich used to play trombone with. The entertainment went on well into the evening until we flopped down in the Bridal Suite. About 25 of our guests stayed in the hotel too. They loved it.
“I’d completely recommend Merchants Manor to anyone planning their wedding. They were incredibly helpful. Nothing seemed too big for them. The food was absolutely fantastic, the service was impeccable and the staff were really attentive. Things like that make a big difference on the day. Everything ran like clockwork. I felt like I didn’t have to think about anything or check on anything. I just knew that it was all under control, so I could relax and enjoy my big day. I mean our big day.”
