We all know that asking the one you love to spend the rest of their life with you is a magical time. But for the person asking the question it can be a nerve wracking experience. If you are planning a proposal read our simple tips to take some of the stress out of planning the perfect proposal.

You have decided that they are the person you want to grow old with, spend the good times and the bad with, and you have even brought a ring . . . now what?

1 – Family First

Don’t just think about your relationship, think about the relationship they have with their parents. Do they have a traditional family? If so you should probably think about asking permission from their family. Asking them may also help indicate whether now is the right time, are they pleased? Do they think they will say YES?

2 – Be Prepared

Practice what you are going to say and how you are going to say it. Are you going to propose on bended knee? Or whisk them away for a romantic weekend with rose petals and candles? If you are contact the hotel, they will be more than happy to help you create the perfect atmosphere.

3 – Venue

Make sure the proposal is in a place where you feel comfortable, but one you will both enjoy, and if you are particularly nervous, take the pressure off and pick a secluded spot. Remember this is for you two and nobody else, so try to make it as thoughtful as possible. Your first date, a weekend away or maybe where you first kissed.

4 – When?

Traditional days are always very popular for a proposal, there is Christmas day, New Years Eve, New Years Day or Valentines Day. Are these dates right for you? Or is there a date that holds a specific significance for your relationship? When you first met?

5 – Stay Calm – Everything is arranged

The venue and date have been chosen and you’ve practiced what you are going say. Now stay calm. This is easier said then done, however here are a few techniques to help you:

Keep Busy. Make sure you eat. A drop in blood sugar will make you feel jittery and even more nervous. Smile. It releases endorphins and makes you feel better – even if it’s fake. Take deep breaths.
