Merchant Manor Head Chef Selected for Award

Merchants Manor Brasserie Head Chef Dale McIntosh has been selected for South West Chef of the Year 2014 semi-finals. Let's wish him the best of luck!

The 2014 semi-finalists of the prestigious South West Chef of the Year competition have been announced this week (30 July) and Dale McIntosh, head chef at Merchants Manor Brasserie, is the only chef from Cornwall to make it through.

Dale will be vying for his place in the finals alongside seven other professional chefs from across the South West at the semi-finals on 11 October at Exeter College. Each of the semi-finalists in the professional class will be creating and cooking two dishes using ingredients from the South West region. Judges in the competition are made up of a panel of renowned chefs including: Michael Caines MBE and Mark Hix as well as local celebrated chefs Nathan Outlaw, Paul Ainsworth and Neil Haydock.

The chefs will be judged on their skill, creativity in cooking and knowledge of produce from the South West region.

Dale, a three-time finalist and winner of the Cornish Challenge, is a recognised name in Cornwall. With more than 15 years’ experience in the kitchen Dale has established his reputation working in many of Cornwall’s favourite restaurants and gastro pubs including The Pandora Inn and Bustopher’s Bar Bistro before taking over the helm at the Merchants Manor Brasserie in January 2013.

With recent successful events such as the Ten Mile Taster evening at Merchants Manor, which celebrated local produce all sourced within ten miles of the Manor, under his belt Dale is well placed for the competition. Commenting on the shortlist news Dale said: “I’m delighted to have made it through to the semi-finals of such a respected award. Naturally I’m nervous but equally excited about this opportunity to showcase my passion for creative dishes using local produce in front of the judges.”
