Your Guide to the Falmouth Splash Festival

A wide array of sights and sounds will bring the town to life as Falmouth hosts its annual ‘Splash’ from the 20th – 28th September 2014.

Once again, this September will see Falmouth erupt in a celebration of creativity. A wide array of sights and sounds will bring the town to life as Falmouth hosts its annual ‘Splash’. From the 20th – 28th September our seaside town, rich with artistic and maritime history, will welcome back some of the most inspiring displays of art and performance from across the globe.

Last year saw a vast array of performances and exhibitions; French street circus: Hors Piste, live book readings from Michael Morpurgo, art installation trails and a variety of workshops – there’s something for everyone!

“From street theatre and story-telling to music and movement expect something quirky, bizarre and humorous during SPLASH!”

SPLASH on the Street

No tickets & no venue, Splash on the Street are spontaneous combustions of creativity that will unwrap around the town during the week. This could range from contemporary dance, through to large scale scribble boards dotted on which to share your thoughts and drawings dotted around the high street.

A focus on the visual arts, visitors will be able to gaze and lose themselves in all of the weird and wonderful displays. Abstract art runs deep in Falmouth’s history and this year we’ll have a whole exhibit dedicated to it, including work from Cornwall based artist Grace Gardner alongside others.

Fear not, if it’s more traditional forms of art such as paintings, sculptures and drawings you’re after the SPLASH week has got this covered too. From one of Britain’s leading contemporary artists, a symphony of pieces will be on display documenting west Cornwall’s inshore fishermen at work.

SPLASH bites

The page is their canvas, words are their paint. These ‘bites’ are a chance to experience striking literature come to life before your eyes. View the art of writing in a new light as live readings unfold in a number of hand-picked venues throughout the town. Book yourself a space for the ‘Tapas Tales’ evening and enjoy Spanish cuisine to the sound of lip-smacking storytelling, or dive into the mind of award-winning screenwriter Emma Frost at the Courtyard Deli – a must attend event if you’re looking to break into the industry!

If you’re as excited as we are, check in to Merchants Manor to be right in the middle of all that’s going on in Falmouth Splash week. Perched right in-between the town and beaches, neither are more than a 15 minute stroll from the Manor with a shuttle bus available if you’d rather save your legs for wondering the splash high street! Falmouth enjoys a late burst of gorgeous balmy weather during September, so get yourself down to the beach and enjoy an ice cream whilst gazing out across the bay – a view of which has inspired artists for decades!
