Fresh sea air, Cornish ales and rolling choirs fill the senses this June as we welcome the return of the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival.
Fresh sea air, Cornish ales and rolling choirs fill the senses this June as we welcome the return of the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival. Kicking off on Friday 12th June, visitors and locals alike will gather around various venues throughout Falmouth to enjoy a weekend of traditional sea shanties in aid of RNLI.
Over the last 11 years this nautical celebration has evolved into one of the largest maritime festivals in Europe. Last year saw the charity events biggest year yet, boasting over 25,000 visitors throughout the weekend – with a total of £10,480 raised for the RNLI.
Falmouth’s International Sea Shanty Festival brings together shanty groups from all over the globe; with a record nine international acts confirmed for 2015, Falmouth welcomes shanty groups from France, Norway, Holland, Ireland, Poland and more.
With a total of 51 groups performing in 22 venues over the weekend, the town will be awash with the sound of storytelling and celebration through song. This family friendly weekend is FREE, with all stages open for the public to enjoy. The Gala Concert is the only ticketed event of the festival, but it’s ticketed for good reason: this special one-off Gala Concert features four of this year’s talented groups: Les Souilles de fond de cale, Kimber’s Men, The Oggymen, plus Tom Lewis with QFTRY as Poles Apart, and will be held live at Princess Pavilion.
